Care of the Earth is a “Holy Calling”

October 24, 2021

“For Christians, care of the Earth is not an “environmental cause.” Rather, it is central to our holy calling to treasure the Earth and to care for it as our common home, fully integrating creation-care into our love of God and neighbor.” (Why Lutherans Care for Creation)

Are you aware that changes in the environment have led to major health issues for humans in the US and throughout the world?  Climate change has also led to problems in farming and agriculture world-wide, leading to crop failure and hunger.  We can see this in the Western part of our own country with the record drought and severe temperatures, this year.  We all saw the destructive effect of climate change in our own neighborhoods with the tornado and rains from Hurricane Ida.

Given that Lutherans understand one aspect of the Christian calling to be good stewards of the Earth and all that is in it, how can we further educate ourselves to be more effective stewards?  How can you advocate for all of creation, both locally and globally to counteract this change?  How might you change your consumption or use of natural resources?
