Dominion over Creation

October 10, 2021

God said to them. “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.” (Gen. 1:28)

What does it mean to have “dominion” over something? Did God give us permission to utilize creation for our own pleasure without regard to the effects our actions have on other people, creatures, or the earth itself? Is it okay to take what we want without regard for the needs of others? Or does “dominion” carry with it a sense of care-taking, nurturing, making sure that the “garden” continues to produce and promote new life?"

How can we enjoy and make use of the Earth and all of its resources?
